Day One: SD - Phoenix

We are done with day one! We are glad that we picked a shorter trip to ease ourselves into this drive. We are lucky that one of our friends lives in Phoenix and we definitely wanted to see them on our way out east, so this was an exciting little trip for us!

This trip was easy for me since I drove so much to Yuma, Arizona all the time for work. It wasn't that exciting for the first few hours, because I knew what was coming! Once you past Yuma there isn't much until Phoenix, but I love the town she lives in! They have the cutest little downtown area in Gilbert, and I'm a little sad we didn't get to venture to the tattoo parlor in that downtown area...again! ;)

But we were excited to spend time with them and see their little boys! Dustin hasn't seen them for about a year! I'm lucky enough to see them at least once or twice a year since they were born! They are seriously the sweetest little boys ever! You ask for a hug and they'll hug you all day long! They love to cuddle! They're adorable!

Ohhhhhh! Almost forgot about my craft! We painted an old window with chalkboard paint, and we plan on taking pictures with every state sign we go through and add on the state name, and then once we find our new home in North Cackalacky, we are going to put it in the foyer!

So, I'm having to blog on my phone on the road! Enjoy my outfit of the day posts (I love winter clothes! So much cuter than summer clothes in my opinion!) as well as some pictures of us in Arizona, and the boys in their Christmas capes!

Getting Ready!

I can't believe it!!!! 4 more days until we leave for our first cross country trip!

Here are our plans, so be sure to follow along, I'm going to hopefully be able to blog throughout the trip with pictures of each state, and how much Guido and I are loving each other/hating each other.

PLUS I have a little craft project I am doing along the way... ;o)

December 1  - Phoenix - Tucson (Visit the gorgeous R. Cella!) ETT: 2 Hours
December 2 - Phoenix - Dallas (Visit the Wares!) ETT: 14 hours, holy shit!
December 3 - Dallas - New Orleans ETT: 8 hours - pretty sure we won't sleep this night
December 4 - New Orleans - Cherry Point ETT: 15 hours

Just mapping that out is making me exhausted, but I am excited to see the country and be able to add all those states to the "places we've been" game. Every year we make a list of all the places we have been, so far Guido wins every time! Damn him for being in the military and being able to add so many countries!

I am hopeful to get pictures with the following "Welcome to ___" state signs!

1. Arizona
2. New Mexico
3. Texas
4. Louisiana
5. Mississippi
6. Alabama
7. Georgia
8.South Carolina
9. North Carolina

This trip should be fun, hopefully, because the next one we do will be with a U-Haul pulling my mini and sitting in the cab with 2 dogs...Whose bright idea was that!

We're getting excited!

Misery LOVES Company

North Carolina News

When I first found out that we were moving to North Carolina, I was upset. Actually, I was more than upset, I was hysterical, which is huge for me because I rarely cry. (To this day I've only cried during Marley & Me, ONLY once during a movie!) Anyways, I've lived in California for all 25 years of my life, I moved from Orange County to San Diego when I was 19, a HUGE one hour from my parents and family. That move was simple, I knew I could go "home" anytime I wanted!

The NC news brought with it every negative thing I could possibly think of. I was listing shit off left and right as to why I just HAD to stay here. My job, I had a commitment, I couldn't just LEAVE my job, how could I do that? My family, they were here, my nephews, how could I leave them? My dogs, how am I going to find somewhere to live that allows my dogs, I just have to stay, I can't lose them!

It took a while for the news to settle in and for me to realize that moving to North Carolina isn't the end of the world for me. It's North Carolina, not North Korea for god sake, how bad could it be? I realized that I could live anywhere for 2-3 years (the length of our orders) and why not take a chance? I've lived here for 25 years, and part of the excitement of being married to someone in the military is the possibility of where you might go.

I started feeling better about the move, googling things to do, places to see. Realizing that maybe the Pacific Ocean can't offer me all the beauty in life. About 2 weeks ago I finally told the people I worked with, and all of my friends (my close family and friends already knew.) I was shocked, appalled, and basically disgusted with the responses I received. They varied anywhere from "you're going to hate it there" to "ew." Who says ew anymore anyways? It was shocking to me because I thought, why can't people just be happy or excited for me? And if they firmly believe that, why do they feel the need to tell me? Do people not have a filter these days?

I have been receiving nice comments from people and awful comments from people for about 2 weeks now and I'm over it, and I think I've finally realized why, with the help from my mother.

"People who are miserable would love nothing more
than having the happy people in their lives be miserable too."

I get it now. I don't know why, but misery loves company, and I've never really experienced that saying until I broke the news about my move. I now understand it perfectly, and it's actually quite sad to realize that people are so unhappy in their own lives, that they feel the need to put so much negativity into someone elses.

And with that, I'll leave you with my newest favorite saying.

From California to North Carolina

Hi there! I finally broke down and decided to create a blog. I've been contemplating doing a blog for years seeing as how the craziest shit seems to happen to me, but I never really had the desire or the time to start a blog. Well all that changed when my husband (the Guido to my Gidget) received orders to Cherry Point, North Carolina! We currently live in Oceanside, CA, and are about to embark on TWO cross country trips back east. I figured it would be a great way to track our adventures and also keep up with with my family in California. So watch us as we travel cross country, experience a new state, and try our hardest to not kill each other along the way!

San Diego - Cherry Point
First Trip: November 30-December 10
